Johari is a Brooklyn-based artist and activist who uses her talents in service of Black liberation and in defense of human rights. She grew up performing with social justice-based arts groups such as Truthworker Theatre Company and Ifetayo Cultural Arts Academy. She has a passion for youth engagement that is clear from her previous work with the University Community Collaborative and her active work with the New Afrikan Scouts Organization. Johari graduated with a Bachelor of the Arts in Theater Arts from Temple University and currently supports communications strategy and content coordination at The Management Center. Johari is a member of the Malcolm X Grassroots Movement and has represented the organization in mission-driven fellowships such as the Movement 4 Black Lives’ Freedom Summer and Freedom Fall Fellowships, starting in 2020. She recently served as the MXGM liaison for the Black Freedom Project and helped to conduct community surveys designed to assess Black folks’ experience of community safety throughout New York State. Johari hails from a family of revolutionaries and seeks to honor them every day through her work.
