Hanna comes from a lineage of educators, most notably her father and grandmother. Her family’s commitment to education is what inspired her passion for working with young people and working towards educational equity. After receiving her BA in English from Amherst College, Hanna started her career as a Teach For America corps member in Atlanta, Georgia. After her time in the classroom, Hanna’s work focused on school operations and, over time, she served as the Director of Operations for City School of the Arts, the Director of Operational Learning & Development for Achievement First, and a Director of Operations at Uncommon Schools. In 2017, Hanna earned her MS in Nonprofit Management from The New School, after which she spent a few years working in the arts education field. While working at The Moth as the Senior Manager of the Education Program, Hanna facilitated storytelling workshops for young people and their teachers. Her favorite aspect of that work was the opportunity to hold space for young people to share their stories and to participate alongside them in co-creating spaces of belonging. Hanna lives in Tulsa, Oklahoma and spends her free time reading books, drinking coffee and chai, and watching any and all content created by Issa Rae.
